Training Your Baby To Sleep Peacefully

By Shelly Gorden

If your little one is a newborn, or even a few months old, plan to wake up at odd hours to cater to her needs. She may be afraid, hungry, or uncomfortable and needs you to soothe her back to sleep. If she's a little older, there's a good chance she may have grown used to having you there to soothe her. It's time to train her to fall back asleep on her own.

There are many approaches to helping your baby get a good night's slumber without waking at night. In this article, we'll provide a few tactics that have worked for millions of parents. Fair warning: not all of them will be easy and each tactic has both proponents and critics.

Tough Love

This is likely to be tougher on you than it will be on her. The goal is to allow your baby to cry without consoling her when she wakes up. You'll naturally want to rush into her room and pick her up from her crib. But, if you can withstand her crying for four or five days, she'll eventually learn to fall back asleep without your help.

One of the reasons this strategy seems to work is because by the time babies reach six months, they have realized that crying brings mom or dad. So, they cry. By allowing them to wail without addressing their call, you'll eventually teach them that crying is no longer a reliable tactic for them to use.

Scheduling Her Slumber

Babies often wake up during the night because their internal sleeping clock is off. They might be overly-tired, which can actually hamper their ability to sleep peacefully. Or, they might not be sleepy because of several naps they've taken during the day. Moms and dads can "fix" their baby's clock by establishing a slumber schedule. The key is to stick to it as closely as possible.

Keep in mind every infant's sleeping needs is a little different. Your little one might need four hours during the day and twelve hours at night. Other babies may need more. You'll need to watch her throughout the day to identify when she gets tired. Before long, her internal clock will take over and help her sleep peacefully until morning.

Wean Her From Your Current Routine

Parents often train their babies to have poor sleeping habits. For example, moms and dads will grow accustomed to giving their little ones a bottle before going to bed. Or, they might read to them or hold them until they fall asleep. The more you do these things, the more your baby will expect them. She'll eventually be unable to fall asleep without them. Gradually wean her from relying upon these activities. Start by doing them with her an hour prior to her normal bedtime.

The ease with which your little one falls asleep - and remains asleep until morning - is largely in your hands. While the strategies above may be difficult in the beginning, they will help your infant learn how to soothe herself into slumber. - 31371

How to Teach Children Right From Wrong

By Dr. Noel Swanson

A typical issue that parents face is dealing with their children's behaviors. Let's say you are a parent of a five year old child that has just started school. She was a polite, considerate, and helpful young lady at home and in front of her teachers. However, her behavior has become inappropriate at home as it includes talking back, swearing, and discussing sex in general terms. She learned these behaviors from other children at her school.

You might not sure how I should teach her to make the right choices about right vs. wrong. She has already missed school at the insistence of her 5 year old friend. HOw can you help her when she is not under your watchful eye at school? How do I ensure she will make the right choice on her own?

Hmmm, how indeed? Let's look at the underlying principles.

Kids in general try hard to do succeed in life. Their behaviors reflect what they think will bring them a desired result. The problem is that their idea of a desire result might not be the best idea. Sometimes they want the basics like hunger, warmth, and food. Or they might wish to have their parent's approval and love. Or they might be out to just have fun.

They will demonstrate the behavior they believe will get them the need they have at that time.

They will find that their behaviors don't always result in success. They learn from this and experiment with other behaviors until they find the ones that yield the desired result. When deciding what behavior to have we rely on experience, direction for our parents, and our skills and abilities. We create a group of behaviors that we hope will serve our needs effectively.

Once we find behaviors that seem to pay off well for us, then we tend to stick with them. The more we repeat them, and the more often they work, the more firmly they will be entrenched as our default behavior.

Returning to your 5 year old daughter. This behavior is a sign that she is in the process of experimenting. She is in a new situation at school and this has expanded her world. She is not sure how to react and is excited and nervous at the same time. She is testing different behaviors to determine which behaviors will end in an intended result.

Many of these behaviors, once tried, will be abandoned. Some will be kept, and incorporated into her normal lifestyle. Which will they be? That depends on what outcomes she experiences. At this age the approval of parents is pretty important, so your response to them will certainly be an influence. But so too will be outside influences, such as explicit rewards or punishments, the approval of teachers and, of course, her friends.

You have a great deal of influence as her parent. When she is this young she will listen to you. Later on is another story. Your influence appears in two ways.

1. Your emotional response - your approval or otherwise of her behaviors.

2. Your control of external factors. You can decide what school she goes to, and the types of people she will meet at school and in your neighborhood. You can also impose rewards, punishments, and constraints (such as permissions to do or not do activities).

Integrating what he discussed together and looking at this logically, you need to answer the following questions:

Do you think your daughter is just experimenting with her behaviors and that it will pass? If you do, then don't worry about it at all as she will move on to better behavior. Kids tend to do mischievous things at this age and still end up to be productive adults.

One thing to consideration is the intensity of reaction you demonstrate to bad behavior. Take swearing for example. If you become exasperated every time she swears, she may view swearing as an adventure because she wants to see you get bent out of shape.

If you feel as if her bad behavior is escalating too much then you need to do something to combat it.

At this point you will need to rely on your judgement of the situation. Are you doing all the things you can as a parent? Make sure that you are a positive role model. Remember, you have a significant influence on her.

Next, check out the school and your neighborhood. How have the children who grew up in this neighborhood fared when they grew up? Do they become productive adults or do most of the kids spend time in juvenile detention for most of their teenage years?

Speak with other parents and teachers. Most schools have a "culture" and it may just be that this is the culture in this school - i.e. that lots of kids go through this phase and then settle down, rather like the toilet jokes when they are 7 and 8. Or it may be that the teachers are greatly concerned.

Sadly, you can't watch over every outside influence in your child's life. You also can't be totally sure that your daughter will learn right from wrong. However, you can improve the chances of her success. Your influence is great and you should be a healthy role model for your daughter. - 31371

What You Need to Know about Baby Products

By Zeeman Haus

There are literally hundreds of things to do before baby comes, buying baby products shouldn't add to your stress, but help relieve it some. Unfortunately though, everyone and their mothers (literally) have tons of unwanted advice on what to buy for baby; that could really stress a parent out. Don't think this article is going to be much different. Well, maybe a little different, you came HERE remember? But we're not going to bother you with anecdotes or show your spouse naked pictures of you at three months old. What we are going to do is offer a few suggestions with the "whys" for you to consider. Hopefully, unlike the three hour conversation over how castor oil was great, this might help you out some.

Strollers will always be the baby's main mode of transportation and will help keep your arms the same length now that they were before your little bundle of joy came into your life. There are two types of strollers: the classic, luxury version and the economical, compact version. If you plan on taking mall trips or park excursions, go for the larger stroller. Many even come the option of converting into a car seat. The smaller and lighter strollers are great too because they are lighter. Also as your child grows up, if they are a girl, baby dolls can be carted around as well.

Believe it or not, of all the baby products out there, diapers are the most controversial. The two choices are cloth and disposable. Cloth diapers are better for the environment and don't fill up landfills. But they're cloth, so you have to wash them. Disposable diapers are disposable, oddly enough, and for your baby and you it's all fire, change and forget. Whatever your choice is remember two things: makes sure the diaper is snug but not too tight and that if the diaper has a 25 lbs limit that is the BABY'S weight limit, not the amount the diaper will hold.

In your quest for the perfect baby products you're going to encounter many, many play pens. The natural inclination is to think you can just get one later, when baby is older. This is not a good idea. A play pen is your baby's protection when you are not holding them. It's a safe environment for them to learn to roll over and to stand up. As infants, it's a place where you know no one will step on them. Don't be afraid to get one right off.

Beds are imperative, unless the idea of your little addition sleeping on a straw mat appeals to you. I'll bet it doesn't. Some parents will buy a play pen and call it quits there. That's a bad idea because you want to establish early on that baby sleeps "here" and plays "there". You are better off starting with a bassinet working up to a baby bed, but definitely work into a bed. Also be mindful of inspecting any antiques that are passed down for possible safety issues. Just because four generations of Lipwickis slept in that bed doesn't mean they didn't get lucky and survive the experience. Padding can be added to make these valuable heirlooms safer.

Blankets are an important concern as well. How many blankets do you need and what types are best? The answers to both of these questions are: all of them and yes. Different baby blankets have different uses. A nice warm fleece is great for cold weather and generally a good choice, however in a hot car on a summer day? No. Use a nice thin linen type blanket. Blankets are also great catch alls for your baby. By that we mean is your baby will use it as a best friend, cover, shade and a bib. It's for the last function that you really should consider getting as many blankets as possible and always keep extras on hand.

There are many bottles on the market; some haven't changed in ages while others could nearly advertise as "same baby bottle the NASA uses." Go with what makes you comfortable. A lot depends on your baby's eating/drinking habits. Just remember that heat and rubber nipples are a bad idea. The rubber in the nipples can become brittle and break off. The possible hazards are obvious. This issue is more prevalent with cheaper made bottles, but all nipples have this possible hazard when exposed to extreme heat like a dishwasher.

Remember when listening to advice from anyone on what would be best for your child that the people giving it care. Yes, it's a hassle. In most cases though, it's not because they feel you'll be a bad parent. They're just trying to save you some of the trial and errors they went through themselves. Just smile and nod. - 31371

Baby Products: Safety First

By Zeeman Haus

There are literally hundreds of things to do before baby comes, buying baby products shouldn't add to your stress, but help relieve it some. Unfortunately though, everyone and their mothers (literally) have tons of unwanted advice on what to buy for baby; that could really stress a parent out. Don't think this article is going to be much different. Well, maybe a little different, you came HERE remember? Hopefully, unlike the three hour conversation over how castor oil was great, this might help you out some.

Strollers will always be the baby's main mode of transportation and will help keep your arms the same length now that they were before your little bundle of joy came into your life. There are two types of strollers: the classic, luxury version and the economical, compact version. If you plan on taking mall trips or park excursions, go for the larger stroller. Many even come the option of converting into a car seat. The smaller and lighter strollers are great too because they are lighter. Also as your child grows up, if they are a girl, baby dolls can be carted around as well.

Diapers are every bit of a concern as well. Whether you decide to use cloth or disposable diapers there are things you need to consider. First off is again: lifestyle. True, cloth diapers are more environmentally friendly, but if baby goes to daycare, good luck with that one. Either way though, fit is a concern. The best way to check if the diaper you are using is too tight is to put two fingers in the waist band once the diaper is closed. If your fingers are snug, then that's a perfect fit. Next you want to check the legs. The bottom should be snug, but not restrictive. If your baby's legs are purple, the diaper is too tight.

Your baby will need a bed too. As infants, bassinets are the preferred bed as they are more mobile than full on baby beds. You can move a bassinet from room to room while baby sleeps because no monitor is as good as having baby right there with you. When they are old enough to move into a baby bed, get a bed with high rails. This will keep your baby from escaping and making their own snacks between feedings. (RIGHT!)

Let's talk bedding now. Blankets are definitely needed. Not only do they say a lot about your status as being a good parent, but they can be used to keep baby warm; just not too warm. Blankets can be used for shade, insulation and often as last ditch clean up rags. You want to make sure that you are using the right blanket for the right temperature. Use lighter weight, lighter colored blankets for summer and heavier ones for the winter time. Make sure whichever blanket you use, it is light enough for baby to move out of its face if needed.

Bottles are the other obvious baby product you will need. Even if you breast feed eventually your child will want some juice, and you'll want to give it to them. No amount of fruit mommy can eat will help the situation either, so get used to the idea. Remember when looking at bottles to make sure they are dishwasher safe and try not to wash the nipples in hot water, as it can break down some of the components in the rubber and cause the nipple to break down and ruin the hole in or even flake apart and choke baby.

Baby products have been developed enough over the years that there are probably more choices than what is healthy for a new parent's sanity. The best bet is to look at your own lifestyle and go from there. If you travel a lot with baby, think pockets. If you're homebodies, then think light. Either way, it's a learning experience and not one you'll ever get back when it's done, so enjoy! - 31371

Buying The Best For Your Children: Baby Pushchairs

By Phil Tedsingson

Balancing the stress of both motherhood and celebrity status can't be easy. Not only do celebrity moms work on movies, go on tours, meet with agents and producers and managers, there are also parties and awards and everything in between making it hard to find time for their children. However these celebrity moms are making the effort to make time for their kids. You see them in magazines or on television pictured walking, playing, and simply being with their children.

One famous mom is Madonna, who seems to rarely be without her children. Daughter Lourdes was born in'96. She is the daughter of Carlos Leon. This was followed, four years later, by a marriage to Guy Ritchie and the birth of her son, Rocco. Back in 2006 the couple began plans to adopt a one year old Malawi boy. After a public two years, the adoption was finalized and they welcomed their new son home. They named him David.

Another mom who makes time for her children is Gwyneth Paltrow. She gave birth to her daughter Apple in 2004. While filming the movie Proof a year later, she became pregnant with her son Moses and spoke often and publicly about the challenges of being a working mother. Her son was born in 2006. Musician Chris Martin is the proud father of both children.

And then there's Brooke Shields, another mother who always seems to have her children with her. She has two, a daughter Rowan and a son, Grier, with her husband Chris Henchy.

These celebrities make sure their children get the best of everything from toys to clothing and everything in between. When it comes to getting their children around when they're out spending time together, they did not skimp there either. All three moms chose the Phil and Teds Sport pushchair.

These chairs are stylish enough even for the most fashionable trend-setter. For her children, Gwyneth Paltrow bought a three-wheeled model in the popular colour apple green. Brooke Shields, for her children, bought the buggy in red and charcoal. Both of these models have room for two children up to five years old, which is useful since both of these moms have two children.

The easy fold design makes it easy to take the Phil and Teds Sport stroller along on outings to the park or strolling down Rodeo Boulevard. The large shopping basket ensures they will not run out of space while they are out buying goodies for the children. All the moms enjoy knowing their children are riding safe with the sturdy design and good brakes that comes with this brand of pushchair.

Celebrity moms such as these want not only the best for their children and for themselves, but also products that make spending time together safe and easy. - 31371

Our Obsession with Celebrities and their children

By Christian Hill

What is it about the many paparazzi photographs that you see of celebrity moms? For many, it is their amazingly slim post-pregnancy physique that is impressive. Others are simply taken in by the unique image of celebrity moms with their children. Yes, celebrity moms are often on the go with their young ones and wish to spend as much time as possible with them. That is why you will usually see them together.

A common theme that you will notice with celebrity parents centres on delivering their children the best of everything. These children are definitely given the best the whole world has to offer. Instead of mere playhouses, celebrity parents can purchase mini mansions for their children. The children are also able to attend the absolute best private schools. Then, there are those children able to receive instruction from private tutors in their own homes. Birthday parties are always an amazing spectacle since the number of incredible delights on display at such festivities can be quite stunning. No matter what these parents buy for their kids they will not skimp on anything. It is always the best of the best for their kids. They are many reasons for this and one of the more overlooked reasons is the need to maintain their child's safety. This is evident in their purchase of pushchairs and strollers.

A common pushchair that you will see a great deal with parents with twins is the Maclaren Twin Techno. Celebrities will not select a pushchair flippantly. They are concerned about the safety of their children and that means they need a reliable chair. This pushchair comes with a sturdy design intended to insure parents their kids are safe inside. It can also folds in a rather easy manner which is added by its lightweight design. This allows it to be taken along anywhere while also giving mom and dad a little walking exercise. And who doesn't want a little extra exercise now and then?

Diana Krall and Elvis Costello are often seen using this stroller with their twin boys Dexter and Fran born in 2006. Heidi Klum is another fan of the pushchair, using it to keep her three youngest children, Henry, Johan and Lou, near her. Henry was born in 2005, Johan in 2006 and Lou in 2009. All three children are with husband Seal. She also has a daughter, Leni, born in 2004.

Charlotte Church is rarely seen without daughter Ruby and her son Dexter with her. She is also seen with them in their pushchair quite frequently. She is not along in using such a solid and excellent pushchair. With three young children with Daniel Moder, actress Julia Roberts sticks with a double pushchair for her strolls with her children. The pushchair makes things a lot easier for her and that is why she is so loyal to its use. Loyalty to a product is often a sign that a product has a high level of quality. And, really, when you are purchasing something for your children do you not want it to possess a high level of quality. You do not want their safety at risk from an inferior product.

Even though these celebrity parents can provide their children with just about anything they or the children can dream up, they are giving them the greatest gift they could possibly give, the gift of time together as a family in the midst of everything going on in everyone's lives. It is no wonder they look for the best products to make spending time together an easy, happy experience. - 31371

Baby Bedding Sets - Learn About The Features

By Bee Fraley

With many types of baby bedding sets available it helps to know what to look for in one. These are sets that feature all sorts of items that are used to make a baby feel comfortable. In addition to these items some decorative things can work too.

The first things to find are the bedding sheets. Two types of these sheets are going to be used. A standard bed sheet and a fitted sheet for the mattress will. For these materials it helps to use cotton sheets. They will keep the baby warm and can handle moisture.

A quilt can also be part of a typical bedding set. Some quilts are made of cotton only. A mix of polyester and cotton is generally recommended for this part, though. This is because polyester is light in weight and will not put too much pressure on the baby. This can allow for the baby to be able to sleep comfortably.

For decorative purposes a crib skirt, which is also known as a dust ruffle, can work. This part of a bed set works to cover the surface that is under the bed. With this the skirt or ruffle can work to hide a storage box placed under it.

Being able to keep the baby protected in the crib is always important. The use of crib bumpers is something to watch for in bedding sets. Many sets will include these bumpers that will be placed around the bars of the bed. This is so that a good cushion can be placed around the walls of the bed. The baby will not be harmed in the event that the baby rolls into the bed walls.

You might also find a decorative pillow in various bedding sets. Thick materials will need to be used for one of these pillows, though. This is so that the baby will not be able to lift the pillow and be pinned under it.

Many sets can come with their own diaper stackers. This is a material that works as a storage device for diapers, baby care products and toys. This part of the set can be designed with a pattern that matches the other items in the set.

Speaking of patterns it helps to look into the design pattern that a set has. Patterns can work with many general colors like blue, pink or a neutral white. You will also find different designs for boys and girls. For boys a sports or animal theme can look good. A castle or flower pattern theme can be used in sets for girls.

These are all the parts of baby bedding sets to check out. These parts include materials for the baby's comfort like sheets and a quilt. Items for safety and storage like bumpers and a diaper stacker can be used too. They can work with different themes that are consistent around the set too. - 31371

Trying To Get Pregnant Quickly - 3 Proven Steps to Easy and Natural Conception

By Claire Arden

If you are trying to get pregnant quickly then you need to be aware that getting pregnant is a numbers game and that even if both you and your partner are perfectly able to have children, you only have a 25% chance of conceiving in any given month.

Of course that percentage drops off significantly if you are above 30 or have any health issues. So what are some of the things you can put into place right away that will increase the odds of you getting pregnant quickly?

1. Make love during your fertile window (3 days leading to and up to 2 days after you ovulate, is always a good time). It is a good idea to make love as often as possible during that time. This will ensure that there is an ample supply of fresh sperm waiting in your fallopian tubes by the time an egg is released from your ovary.

2. Another crucial step you have to take if you are trying to get pregnant quickly is to Make your vaginal environment as sperm friendly as possible by avoiding all forms of artificial lubrication. That includes all store bought lubricants, saliva, glycerine and vegetable oils.

You should also avoid vaginal sprays, douching and wearing scented tampons because they affect the acid levels of the vagina. You need your vagina to be as alkaline as possible because the more alkaline it is, the higher the chances of the sperm surviving for long periods of time.

3. Start taking folic acid Immediately: You reduce the chances of your baby suffering from any neural tube defect by as much as 70% if you start taking 0.4mg of folic acid now. Most prenatal supplements do have folic acid in them but make sure it contains the right amount.

If you are trying to get pregnant quickly you now have 3 effective tips that will greatly increase your chances of getting pregnant with that dream child. - 31371

Ways To Have Fun with Exercise

By Gerrad Mills

So, you probably already know the importance of exercise. You might even already be doing it, but you're beginning to get bored with your program. Exercise can be monotonous if you are always doing the same thing. Also, lots of programs have everything exactly listed out in the most efficient way to reach your goals in the shortest quantity of time, so you finish up doing a similar thing all of the time, and it might not even be something that you truly enjoy doing.

If you stop and think what you are telling yourself by trying to do the most productive exercise schedule when you don't enjoy it, you'll realize you want to change. The unspoken message is that you just wish to meet a certain goal and then you can stop doing it. Seriously, why would you continue doing something you didn't enjoy for the rest of your life? Find somebody to run with and start adding in sprints to modify it up. Hear good music and change it every so often, so you are able to actually get into a good straightforward perspective.

Get a cycle and go for bike rides. Find trails to use that make it more engaging and delightful. Get your folks to go with you and make it a fun family outing. Pack a picnic and ride to a picnic spot. Spend a few hours eating, lying on a blanket, or playing Frisbee together and then ride back home.

Get outside and play with your children. Try playing tag, football, or other games that need physical activity. Take them to a park and get on the monkey bars with them. Yet, these children must deal with the problem of having to share a very complex limelight with their parents. This can make even a simple trip to the local zoo problematic since there are scores of fans and photographers always floating around. Also, the children may sometimes have to deal with separation anxiety when parents are away on location or taking part in a live tour.

Things to Look for in a Diaper Bag

By Jennifer McBeal

A baby bag is one of the most essential baby items you'll need when you become a new parent. In addition to carrying diapers for use on the road, it also provides a place for bottles, snacks, toys, extra clothes and your own personal belongings.

There are many different baby diaper bags for purchase out there. And you may be intimidated by the assortment of choices for a parent. This article will help give you some basic things to look for, so you can choose the baby bag that's right for you.

Function, type and look are the top three considerations.

The Function of a Diaper Bag

Before you make a purchase, you'll want to consider the functionality of your diaper bag. For all of your baby's needs, make sure there are plenty of pockets and plent of room, particularly for the essentials including diapers, baby wipes and a changing pad. Some diaper bags come with a built-in changing pad, but you may want to pack your own.

Pockets for additional items is also helpful, such as feeding bottles, change of clothes and pacifiers. Keep an eye out for bags that come with insulation for keeping bottles warm or cold, and pockets for personal items like your keys, phone and other valuables, so you're not burdened with carrying around a separate purse.

You'll also want to evaulate the changing bag for its fastener. Does it have a zipper or flap? Is it velcro or a magnet? Zippers are the best option for packing your items securely, so nothing escapes. Velcro can be troublesome if it gets caught on your clothes, and be mindful of increases in price if a magnet is included.

Finally, you'll want to consider whether you want a diaper bag that is waterproof and washable - good for cleaning up spills - and has an antibacterial lining.

Types of Diaper Bags

Arm yourself with knowledge of the different types of diaper bags out there. Each has different characteristics that serve various purposes. One kind is the stroller diaper bag. It features a long strap for hanging on your stroller. Another popular category is the messenger diaper bag, which comes with a flap that folds over the top and is easy to get in and out of. We are strong supporters of the backpack diaper bag. The diaper bag backpack is a good option for reducing back pain and freeing up your hands. Shoulder bags and handbags are stylish options, however you'll want to look for a wide strap that won't slip off your shoulder.

Looking Good with Your Diaper Bag

When it comes to diaper bags, choices abound. The price range runs the gamut, but you get what you pay for. High-end diaper bags, made with reliable materials, even come with warranties. Big-label designers have released their own models, like Mia Bossi luxury diaper bags, Reese Li bags, OiOi diaper bags for parents on the go, Storksak designer bags (used by celebrity mom Angelina Jolie), Coach diaper bags, and Timi and Leslie bags.

Something else to keep in mind is an environmentally-friendly diaper bag, made of recycled materials and produced by companies that are known for being green. There are options to customize your diaper bag as well. Get your baby's name sewn onto the changing bag, or hand pick a color or pattern. Or gift a friend with a customized diaper bag! You might also check out more masucline styles and patterns for dads, though a neutral option is often best to accommodate both parents.

To conclude, you'll want to consider pockets, the fastener, washability, and a shape and look that feels like a fit for you. Don't be caught without everything you need. If you choose to buy multiple diaper bags, pack each one with all of your necessities! - 31371

Convertible Versus Drop-Side Cribs

By Court Rogers

Choosing good Convertible Crib Mattresses can be a daunting task for any parents. There are basically 2 types of mattresses, which are foam mattress and the inner spring mattress. Inner Spring Mattresses for Convertible Cribs are slightly bulky but durable in the long run. They retain their shapes for a very long time inspite of their daily use.

They are two types of Crib Tents for Convertible Cribs. These are fancy tents and standard tents. Tents with extended nylon meshes that cover the sides of the Convertible Cribs are Fancy Crib Tents. There is an option where one side of such tents can be opened with nylon zippers.

It is important that latches and locks are in good working condition in a Convertible Crib. It should also be seen that the adjustable side rail, slides easily and lock themselves into the desired position. Adjustable mattress supports must be installed into the Convertible Cribs. This should be done in order to make sure that the Crib grows as the baby grows older. It is a wonderful piece of furniture that makes things simple.

A Two-In-One Convertible Crib is one which can be converted from a baby bed to a toddler bed. This can be used as a toddler bed when at least one side of the crib is removed. A Five-In-One Convertible Crib is one which can be converted to a twin bed and can also incorporate an additional loveseat. These Cribs are the modified versions of a Four-in-One Convertible Crib.

A big choice that new parents must often make is the type of crib to get for the nursery " a traditional drop-side crib, or the more recently introduced cribs that can be converted into toddler beds and full-sized beds. Although personal preferences are very important here, my vote goes to convertible cribs for reasons of value and practicality as well as for decorative reasons. - 31371

What Is The Best Convertible Crib?

By Court Rogers

Buying a convertible crib is an excellent choice. Not only do they look gorgeous but they grow with your child and, as you won't need to buy your child another bed until adulthood, you'll save yourself a lot of money. Here's a sample of some of the best convertible cribs.

Harking back to traditional American furniture styles seems to sit well with this Virginia based company. Unlike many baby furniture manufacturers, the company still makes its cribs in the United States using only the finest hardwoods and craftsmanship. Inevitably, many parents won't be buying a Bassett crib, but for those who like or yearn for good-old-fashioned, simple American furniture they will appreciate the designs of many of the Bassett convertible cribs.

Using traditional designs and good materials is one thing, but Bassett convertible cribs are also made using the latest technology. Not only does this help to make a Bassett affordable whilst still being of the highest quality, it also means that each piece of nursery furniture meets and exceeds industry standards. All its convertibles have Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA) certification, which helps to ensure a baby sleeps safely and that parents can sleep safe in the knowledge that no harm will come their little one.

Bassett aren't going to be to everyone's liking. Surprisingly, the company has not come up with a broad range of designs. There are no European modern styles, like that found in Pali cribs. And, the designs, whilst being very traditional, lack the intricate and fancy detailing of manufacturers such as Munire Cribs. The company doesn't really make cheap baby furniture either; instead, Bassett cribs occupy the mid-range price range.

The Carmen Forever collection has a chunkier look to it. The side panels are straight, unlike the Rosalia, and the rails are only rounded on the headboard and footboard. Again, the slats are plain in design. The choice of finishes is somewhat smaller; you can have cherry, cognac, hazelnut, matte white and natural. - 31371

What Essential Oils Should I Avoid During Pregnancy?

By Adriana Noton

As any soon-to-be-mother knows, pregnancy can be a mixed bag of highs and lows. While you are excited about meeting your new bundle of joy, observing a hundred and one dos and donts can present something of a challenge, especially if you are a creature of habit.

Take for example, the use of essential oils.

Found in many spas, candles and aromatherapy products, they can present a problem to a mothers unborn child. The problem is many women use these items for holistic skin care regimens or a relaxation tools. Being told that they can no longer use these products may cause a sense of despair as impending motherhood can cause skin reactions and stress.

However, it is best for a pregnant woman to stay away from these oils. Understanding why could go a long way in aiding women to firm their resolve in avoiding these substances.

Harmful affects of essential oils

Botanical products are normally very beneficial to adult humans, but these same oils could cause birth defects or premature delivery, especially when used in certain doses.

This is because some of these oils produce hormone like affects that can trick the uterus into contracting. Others, while normally okay, can be highly toxic to an unborn child. Since oils can quickly absorb into the skin and into the blood stream, this is not a good thing.

A few oils to avoid

While it may seem like a bit of an over kill, you would be wells advised to consider what oils may not be safe to use.

There are literally hundreds of oils that are off limits during your pregnancy. To be certain which ones may cross the placenta and pose a threat to your unborn, ask your doctor or do an online search.

There are even a few pregnancy forums where mothers gather to swap anecdotes, ideas and advice. You may be able to get the info you need from such boards.

While the list can be fairly comprehensive, there are few common oils that most people use that would be best to avoid, and they are:

Basil, black pepper, citronella, clove , jasmine , lemon , nutmeg , peppermint, rose wintergreen, rosemary and chamomile in certain doses.

Many of these are uterine stimulants and can cause contractions. Causing early contractions, as you may know, may result in premature labor.

To avoid this, stay away from these particular oils altogether. Again, when in doubt about an essential oil, consult your OB/GYN for guidance.

Safe alternatives for Mom and baby

Women who find that their skin is now breaking out or are seeking new ways to relax and unwind may feel at a loss of what to do.

The answer is relatively simple.

There are many products especially made for the pregnant woman that contain organic ingredients like Shea butter oil, which is safe for use during pregnancy. While these may be a tad bit on the expensive side, you can console yourself by the thought that a) you will only be using them for a few months and b) you are doing it so your baby can remain healthy.

Besides, dont forget that daddy can be an indispensible help during this time. Ask him for occasional gentle messages to relieve stress and promote relaxation. You may be surprised, but the request will make him feel useful in a time where he may feel left out.

A happy, healthy pregnancy

Being pregnant can be an amazing time in a womans life. It can be hard and extremely stressful, yet alternatively rewarding. Yes, there may be things, like essential oils, that you have to worry about in conjunction with a million and one other things, but when you finally hold your child in your arms, giving up a few habits here and there wont seem quite so bad. - 31371

Crib Tent For Convertible Crib

By Court Rogers

Buying your baby's first crib can be a very exciting experience. At the same time, it can be a very financially exhausting experience, as no good baby crib goes for a small amount. While it won't cut down on the amount of money spent on your first crib, purchasing a convertible crib for your little one can help cut down on the cost of buying beds for your child after they have left the infant stage, and can make your initial investment in a crib just that much more worthwhile.

These cribs can be converted to toddler beds or full sized beds. Now-a-days, these are preferred as they are very beautiful and useful as well. They are better decorative pieces as compared to the drop-side cribs! Moreover, the mattresses can be easily moved up and down as per the requirements of the growing baby. Also, it can be converted into a toddler bed that has a safety rail and is helpful when your child is ready to get trained for the real bed.

Another one of the useful benefits of a convertible crib is that they are easily made use of in the event that your family welcomes another child, now or in the distant future. Cribs are also easily passed down, but they are used for such a short period of time that they are often passed along to other people, sold or trashed rather than used within the same family.

With a convertible crib, it makes more sense to keep the crib within the family as it is used for a longer period of time. For families who plan on having more than one child, it is highly possible that the little one may still be using the convertible crib when the time comes around for the new addition to the family to need it.

Having a convertible crib only makes sense, especially when it comes to larger families. It is easy to transition from a sleeping space for an infant to a little one, and it doesn't require the purchase of a toddler bed at that, saving valuable money in the long run. Cribs are not cheap, and being able to get more use out of a convertible crib certainly helps to justify the money spent on a crib n the first place. - 31371

Heart Jewelry...The Very Beginning...

By Betsy Johnson

We have received so many wonderful responses on the articles regarding heart jewelry that we have written in the past. We thank you so much. Today we would like to write a more generic article regarding the history of jewelry in general. "Jewelry Making" as an art form has been around for thousands of years, and we see that different cultures have incorporated it in various ways. When we examine these pieces of jewelry we gain insight into how these various cultures worked...

The homo sapiens that lived in Africa provide us with the first sign of a culture using jewelry. They have found snail shell beads at Blombos Cave (situated in the side of a limestone cliff in South Africa) that date back to over 75,000 years ago. If we go to the other side of Africa, at Enkapune Ya Moto in Kenya, they have found beads made from ostrich egg shells that date back to over 40,000 years ago.

Egypt is known for the Great Pyramids and the Ancient Sphinx, but it has created some remarkable jewelry as well. In fact, we see the first signs of established jewelry making starting to appear here around 3,000 to 5,000 years ago. The Egyptians used many of the materials that we use to make jewelry today, such as gemstones, but glass was their preferred medium. With glass they could color it to satisfy their various tastes and needs. In fact, for every gemstone that they could find in nature, they were able to make a glass replicate of it. As time passed on, other cultures, such as the Ancient Phoenicians, used Egyptian jewelry as a template for their own unique designs.

Color was very important for the Ancient Egyptians. To them, different colors meant different things. If we would like to examine this matter further, we need to look no further than the Book of the Dead. It tells us that the necklace of Isis that was to be placed on the mummy's desk needed to be red. The color red would satisfy Isis's need for blood. Green jewelry on the other hand symbolized new growth in the area of fertility and crops. Egyptian jewelry was made primarily in large workshops that were attached to temples and palaces.

Around 4000 years ago we see jewelry development and production starting to spring up in the cities of Sumer and Akkad in Ancient Mesopotamia. This jewelry tended to be made from metal leaf, and was often set in a large number of brightly-colored stones, such as lapis, jasper, agate, and carnelian. They also incorporated various shapes, such as grapes, leafs, cones and spirals into their designs. Since the Ancient Mesopotamians were also masters in the area of record keeping, huge archives of detailed records relating to the creation and trading of jewelry have been unearthed in various archaeological sites.

We hope this little departure from our usual heart jewelry articles has been fun and educational. It's amazing to see how jewelry making as evolved over the years. - 31371

What Are The Best Toys For My Children

By Andrew M. Nicola

The first years of our life are totally determined by one thing: Playing. Of course it is not a waste of time; it is a very important educational element and necessary part of our growth process. But there are different ways of playing and there are toys that make somehow more sense to educate children than others.

In this article I will mainly focus on dolls and their importance for our youngsters. Since I am originally from Germany where especially the idea of a puppet buggy (German: Puppenwagen) is very common and where it has also even been invented to some extend, I will also explain what the developers give to think about it. Should we for example buy a doll carriageregarding that it is quite expensive only being a buggy for a doll?

Many children have dolls and most parents expect this or even like the idea of having grand children so early. They like to see that their youngsters care about something else. It might only be a puppet, but still teach them an important lesson: To take care. And this is also the reason why you should think about a puppet dolly (Puppenwagen). Even if you ask a professor for psychology at the university he will tell you not to underestimate the things you can learn from owning a dolly and treating a puppet a bit more like a real child.

A puppet buggy will give your children an idea how much effort it actually takes to look after a child and that it also requires many other stuff like a Puppenwagen for example. Of course in the end you will not have to buy anything possible in puppet size, but it might be good to give your offsprings at least an idea that there might be equipment you have to buy for your children. If they want to have more stuff for their puppets you might just answer: You are right. Actually a child would need that, but a puppet might be happier with a bit less stuff. But later on you will surely have to buy this for your real children.

More than 50 percent of the children want to have more extra things for their dolls. This shows that they do not want something directly for themselves but for something they just look after. If one thinks about this idea it is a very important step in the development of a child. And this step should maybe be supported. There is maybe no need of buying a Puppenwagen but in general one must be aware of the fact that this developmental step of our youngsters is important and has to be supported in some way. - 31371

Baby Potty Training - 5 Benefits of Potty Training Your Baby Early

By Lily Adams

A lot of kids are potty trained around the age of 2 or later. Another option available is baby potty training which has its own benefits even though it might be harder for some people to implement. This article will discuss 5 reasons to give early potty training a try.

1. Improves Baby-Bonding: Supporters of this method believe that infant potty training can bring you and your baby closer, though there has been no scientific study on the matter. A kind of communication is formed between the two of you that isn't usually there since it is necessary to be so closely tuned into your babies needs and signals.

2. More Comfort: Diaper rash is believed to cause an increase in crying and fussing. Since less diapers are used with this technique, your child will experience less troublesome rashes that can occur while wearing diapers.

3. Increases Independence: Some believe that by going without diapers, your baby will begin to increase their independence as you encourage them to crawl. This could not happen if they were using diapers as they are very dependant on you for this.

4. Lessen Diaper Waste: Disposable diapers create a substantial amount of waste that ends up in our landfills. While cloth diapers can help decrease this problem, it can create its own problems as it takes quite a bit of energy in order to launder them. It can help the environment considerably as well as your pocket book by choosing baby potty training.

5. Completely Natural: In both Africa and Asia mothers carry un-diapered infants around. By doing this they become accustomed to reading their baby's signs and avoid being soiled by holding their child away from their bodies before they go to the bathroom. This won't work for most modern families however, but the same principles apply. Learning your child's cues will allow you to try this form of potty training.

This article discussed 5 benefits of potty training your baby early. Deciding to go without diapers can help increase baby bonding, provide increased comfort for your baby, expand their independence, reduce diaper waste as well as it can be more comfortable for the baby.

This idea is not well documented and is greatly debated, but if you are considering this method you probably have more questions...
